Welcome to the new website for Inuit Fine Art Gallery, and to “Cross Currents: The Inuit Art Blog.” It’s been months in development, and I’m grateful to the folks at Digital Mainstreet (https://digitalmainstreet.ca) for their digital training and support of main street retail businesses in Ontario. I’m excited to finally lift off of this new platform. I think the new look is much better at featuring individual artists and their work, and the on-line store allows for seamless browsing and shopping. New collections of prints, drawings and sculpture will continue to be added, so keep in touch!
The title of my blog comes from one of my favourite prints by the artist, Ningiukulu Teevee. I love her fluid line as these schools of fish navigate the changing current of the Arctic Ocean. Her flare for composition and movement inspire me as a writer, and I look forward to sharing my rich and rewarding experience living and working in Kinngait (Cape Dorset.)
I hope you enjoy the “virtual” tour offered here. Feel free to comment, sign up for my newsletter and follow me on Instagram and Facebook. And of course, if you’re in Port Hope, please come by the gallery and see for yourself. It’s that much better in person!
